Michael Murphy - Contemporary Scottish artist, paintings and art
Michael Murphy studied art and design at Leeds Metropolitan University from 1977-81. He specialized in ceramics favouring raku work because of its exciting textures and the smoky patterns of the process.
His passion soon turned back to his first love of painting however, and his work can now be seen in galleries throughout Scotland.
Michael Murphy has also taught art in secondary schools. He is attracted to many subjects and is happy moving from abstract to impressionist styles. Colour and light are the main reasons he chooses his projects. His studio has an outlook on to the island of Arran, a common subject of lots of his work.
