The Second ‘Cutting Edge’
Exhibition – ‘Seeing the Light’, The Collins Gallery, Glasgow and
The Scott Gallery, Hawick. 2004
‘The private view for this
Cutting Edge exhibition was held on Friday 11 June at the Collins
Gallery, Glasgow. A superb venue, and one which lent itself very
well to this particular exhibition. An airy, light, neutral space,
perfect for showing off the theme ‘Seeing the Light’.
On entering the show, you
were greeted by the dark, weighted pieces by Dugald MacInnes, which
acted as a visual anchor between the dazzling surfaces of Elaine M
Goodwin’s work, and the joyful exuberance o Cleo Mussi’s work.
MacInnes draws from the
landscapes and materials from his native Scotland for his work. Dark
slates stacked up against rivers of copper suggest ancient pathways
and the archaeological histories that MacInnes is so inspired by.
His work has a mysterious and mythical quality and is as solid as
the stone streets of the grand city outside the gallery.’
