Alan's family originate from the Isle of Lewis, but came to England for work. Alan and his wife came to Scotland many years ago to trace his family tree. They came to Stirling where their son was living and whilst there came to Callander for a holiday. It was love at first sight for them and they hope to live here as soon as possible.

The love Alan feels for Callander and the Trossachs reflects in his paintings. He paints in all mediums and is totally self-taught. Alan always liked drawing and sketching as a youngster, but in later years became fascinated by Walt Disney's work. When Alan's son was born he decorated Marc's room totally in Disney cartoons.

Some time later he was encouraged to send some of his work to The London Collage of Art. They were most enthusiastic and urged him to send them to Disney Publications. They were most impressed and more so when they found he had no training whatever.

In his hometown Alan is well known for his work and has sold many works here and abroad. Although Alan paints landscapes and places of interest, at home his caricatures sell extremely well. Because of these Alan, has been involved in safety in the workplace campaigns for his employers and has had his safety posters sent worldwide through their many branches.

This aside Alan continues his art, and is now also turning his hand to woodwork and crafts.
