George Somerville

George Somerville was born in 1947. He studied at Glasgow School of Art between 1965 and 1969,  and after worked as an illustrator for several city advertising agencies for many years, latterly free-lance, before deciding to paint full-time.

Somerville exhibits throughout the UK and abroad, painting mostly Scottish landscape with an emphasis on colour and texture. The paintings tend to be elements of a subject and geographical location rather than an explicit representation. Atmosphere and contrast are important to the compositions and so the paintings are worked in such a manner that best portrays this.
