Rob Mulholland

A graduate of Edinburgh College of Art, has created this distinctive collection of craftworks. Each piece is individually coloured and patterned by applying heat over the surface of the metal to alter the colour. In essence the torch replaces the brush to draw out the various hues locked within the crystals of the metal. Each bowl is coated to seal in the colours, producing a unique one off art piece.

These unique red bowls are hand made by spinning flat sheets of metal to form a concave shape and burnishing the surface. The colour and patterns are achieved by heating the surface of the metal with a propane tourch which alters the crystal structure and creates the colour. In essence the torch replaces the brush to draw out the various hues locked within the metal.

A special powder is added to the clear lacquer to create the distinctive red bowl colouring.
