Chris Carroll

Chris Carroll lives and works by the Lake of Menteith with his wife and young family. His initial interest and fondness for working with wood goes back to childhood when the newly discovered aromas and textures of the different woods encouraged early attempts at whittling and carving. Today, he recognises that his work in turning is shaped by the patterns that lies within the natural grain of the wood. He feels he is attemting to interpret an untold story and this ultimately governs the use and shape of the finished piece. 'I start with an idea but the life of the wood ultimately tells me where I'm going.'

All wood used is either locally sourced, windblown timber or reclaimed from Sustained Woodlands Charitable Trusts. This is important to Chris as it reflects the natural harmony that he feels lies within all aspects of his work.
