Artists’ Statement
My jewellery is
unashamedly decorative, taking its influences from floral
imagery and patterns and demonstrating my personal interest in
the styles and motifs of Art Nouveau and Art Deco. I’m drawn to
the sophisticated charm of these periods, and many of my pieces
recapture the femininity of the time, whilst updating it with a
contemporary twist. My recent work has taken its direction from
imagery associated with styles from both home and abroad,
ranging from necklaces and earrings decorated with decadent
Venetian fans to a series of brooches with a hint of Russian
architecture. A recent visit to Yorkshire’s stately and
atmospheric Castle Howard has resulted in a small series
inspired by the magnificent peacocks parading the grounds there.
Precious metal is
combined with leather, often used as a background for areas of
pierced out detail, and enamel paint. In shades ranging from
subtle grey to vibrant teal green, they create highlights of
colour amongst a palette of black and white metal. My collection
currently includes a selection of pendants, necklaces, brooches,
earrings and bracelets.
