I design and
manufacture contemporary jewellery in both precious and
non precious materials. The inspiration behind my work
comes from an investigation of the colours, textures and
patterns found in cakes and sweets. I became interested in
confectionery as an inspiration source on a research trip
to New York and my interest increased when I travelled to
Paris later that year. I combine traditional jewellery
techniques with more modern ones to recreate the vibrant
colours and textures found in my source material.
My passion for colour and texture has lead
me to dye nylon monofilament and use brightly coloured
plastics which I heat form into softly rounded shapes and
combine with silver, corrugated with steel presses, to
match what can be found in the confectioners window. I
also incorporate different silver chains, small amounts of
gold, semi-precious stones and pearls in some of my pieces
to give an extra edge of preciousness.
My newest range that is evolving is a
collection of Sampler brooches, squares of silver
scattered with elements of chain, charms, beads and
stones, nylon monofilament, cold enamel filled domes and
different finishes.
I feel my work contributes an element of
fun to contemporary jewellery and also challenge the
public preconceptions of what jewellery is.
I have had a WASPs studio in Dundee since
before I graduated in 2004 and have been exhibiting across
the country since then.
