Walter Awlson graduated in Furniture Design and Sculpture from Edinburgh College of Art in 1971, before later gaining his Certificate in Secondary Education.  For the next twenty years, as well as teaching, Walter Awlson developed SCOTVEC national certificate courses in Art and Design and worked as an Examiner, Marker, Subject Assessor and Verifier.

In the early nineties Walter Awlson resigned from teaching to concentrate on artwork and he developed work in slip-cast figurative sculpture.  Walter Awlson has recently been teaching sculpting in West Virginia, USA.

Walter Awlson's work is shown in many Scottish galleries as well in England, Belgium and the USA.  In 1990 he won the SPA Alastair Dunn award.  He is a Professional Member of Scottish Artists and Artist Craftsmen, has paintings in the collection of Lord Doune.  Walter Awlson has also created a ceramic mural displayed in Alloa town centre and has made the centrepiece for the historical exhibition at Abbot’s House, Dunfermline.
