Walter Awlson graduated in Furniture Design and Sculpture from
Edinburgh College of Art in 1971, before later gaining his
Certificate in Secondary Education. For the next twenty years,
as well as teaching, Walter Awlson developed SCOTVEC national
certificate courses in Art and Design and worked as an Examiner,
Marker, Subject Assessor and Verifier. In the early nineties
Walter Awlson resigned from teaching to concentrate on artwork
and he developed work in slip-cast figurative sculpture. Walter
Awlson has recently been teaching sculpting in West Virginia,
USA.
Walter Awlson's work is shown in many Scottish galleries as
well in England, Belgium and the USA. In 1990 he won the SPA
Alastair Dunn award. He is a Professional Member of Scottish
Artists and Artist Craftsmen, has paintings in the collection of
Lord Doune. Walter Awlson has also created a ceramic mural
displayed in Alloa town centre and has made the centrepiece for
the historical exhibition at Abbot’s House, Dunfermline.
